McAffee VirusScan Plus; Endurable and User-Friendly

McAfee is a well known brand for having quality products. This anti-virus program is does a great job detecting and removing viruses. The only thing that bothered me was their update process which was somewhat slow and tedious.

I would highly recommend product like Zone alarm. I own Total protection, recently my PC got infected by XP Police Anti-virus which is a malware. I contacted support, which asked me this can be fixed by mcafee for a fee. I was shocked !!!! First I pay for the service for 1 year and now they demand more money if they want to clean the virus.. whats the point if they cannot fix the virus that my machine has got infected and if they will still charge if machine gets infected.
I would recomend Zone alarm or other software but definatly not McAfee.

Did not install properly. Despite the instructions advising that it is ok to install over previous versions, I had to uninstall before the latest version would work.

This VirusScan was very easy to install and protects your computer by instantly scanning the system. Updates your computer periodically and this software is inexpensive. I would recommend everybody to use McAfee.

I recently bought a new Dell desktop which came with a 30 day trial of McAfee VirusScan 2009. After I installed the trial version (good for 30 days) it crashed my computer. I had to get help from a level 3 technician from Dell which cost me $135.00 to help me rebuild and restore my computer. I have other versions of McAfee on my old desktop and they drove me nuts with popups, and annoying messages. My advice is to stay away form this program unless it comes with a can of Raid to destroy all the bugs.

The product scans fine but I was never able to register it. When I entered in the appropriate information and pressed, it just gave me a blank popup. I guess I will have to contact their tech support or email one of the community forums.

I've been using McAfee VirusScan for over five years, and it's a straight-forward piece of software that does the job advertised. I have two complaints with the 2009 version: (1) it extends boot-up time by two or more minutes; and (2) I expect that as was true with the 2008 version, at the end of a year it will deactivate, so that you will get no virus protection whatsoever until you pay for another year. The latter is, in my opinion, an annoying and unnecessary marketing ploy, because out-of-date protection is superior to no protection.

WARNING -- McAfee VirusScan does not work with Internet Explorer 8. I bounght this product and found the product would not work on my computer. McAfee customer support did not help with the problem. After doing independant researh I discovered VirusScan was incompatible with the Imternet Explorer8 which was running on my Vista operating system. After I uninstalled IE 8 and reinstalled IE 7 on my computer everyting worked fine. This was a process that requires a medium level of computer knowledge. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT UNTIL MCAFEE FIXES IT TO WORK WITH IE 8.
